Media Education Foundation

Media Education Foundation (MEF) is a leading provider of educational documentary with a focus on the social, cultural, and political impact of American mass media.

MEF both creates and distributes for other creators many of these most important documentaries in the educational landscape. For more than a decade, MEF has been among the five most important and most frequently streamed providers of film on American and global campuses via university library access. In the years before widely accessible streaming video solutions were available, MEF managed its relationship and sales with university libraries directly via DVD sales. The advent of streaming forced many small distributors in the direction of licensing their content to aggregators. The team at MEF came to David Parker to strategize on and deliver a new MEF-direct streaming platform solution. David has guided the MEF team through the selection of a technology partner, product packaging and pricing decisions, and through a revamped approach to select third-party licensing.

“We engaged David's consulting services to help us assess the strength of our brand
with university librarians responsible for the acquisition of streaming media. Over the past 10
years, as video acquisition by universities switched from predominantly DVD to streaming, we
at Media Education Foundation fulfilled delivery of streaming video to universities primarily
through third-party licensing to video aggregators. David's research with librarians into the
strength of the MEF content, coupled with his deep experience into distribution options we
could pursue, led us to confidently decide to launch our own streaming platform. We are
confident this path forward will be a win for librarians, faculty, students, and our filmmakers.”
